ABV breakaway couplings prevent accidents by protecting hoses or pipework from excessive load, including non-axial forces which can reduce the breaking strain of a hose. When the coupling separates, a valve in each side closes automatically, preventing product loss or spillage.

Both sides of the coupling have an internal thread. The housing and interior components are available in stainless steel, brass and Hastelloy®; seals are available in polyurethane, Perbunan® and Kalrez®, as well as in PTFE for the stainless steel couplings.
